Surf lifesaving legend Sean Kenny joins forces with Collaroy SLSC and KISTERS to launch The Collaroy Breakers Cadets Program
A new era of surf lifesaving is set to begin on Sydney’s Northern Beaches as Collaroy Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) launches The Collaroy Breakers Cadets Program, backed by environmental technology leader KISTERS and supported by one of surf lifesaving’s greats – Sean Kenny.
The initiative aims to empower local teenagers aged 13 to 18 with practical surf lifesaving skills, leadership experience, and personal resilience – giving young people a positive pathway to stay active and engaged in their community.
“This program is about building more than surf lifesavers – it’s about building character,” said Janelle Kenna, Program Lead at Collaroy SLSC. “Through beach activities, teamwork challenges, and community service, we’ll help teens develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to look out for each other.”
A program with purpose.
Designed as a bridge from Nippers to senior membership, the Collaroy Breakers Cadets Program incorporates a new suite of personal development modules, including: – Resilience, ‘Look out for a mate’ peer awareness, plus coastal workshops.
These elements encourage participants to stay mentally strong, connected, and safe – both on and off the beach.
Sean Kenny joins as mentor and coach.
Adding excitement to the program’s launch, Collaroy SLSC has confirmed that Sean Kenny, one of Australia’s most decorated surf lifesavers and coaches, will join the initiative as a mentor and coach.
A long-time Collaroy member and current Board & Ski Captain, Kenny brings more than 15 years of coaching experience, a distinguished service record, and a legacy of national titles to the role.
“I’ve seen firsthand how surf lifesaving can shape lives,” Kenny said. “This program gives local kids a chance to develop resilience, leadership, and a sense of belonging – the kind of lessons that stick for life.”
